3 Steps to a Stress-Free Parenthood

Becoming a parent is not an easy job; it’s a lifelong journey that we need to take and do well.  If there’s one thing that can be considered as the most difficult part of becoming a parent that would be the fact that our kids are always observing us and are silently taking their cues on how to manage life’s ups and down. So whenever we handle stress and tough situations in an unhealthy way – like shouting, blaming, and getting angry – we are actually teaching our children to do just the same.

As parents, it is our duty to make sure that no matter how complicated our lives are, we have to manage and solve things calmly. And so, to help you do that, here are some tips that can divest your stress:

1. Get Enough Rest

With loads of things to do in the house and at work, parents are undeniably sleep-deprived. But if you want to boost your ability to cope up with all the stress that you are dealing, the best way that you can do is to get more rest. As much as possible, you need to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep for your body to recharge. When we deprive ourselves of sleep, we’ve probably noticed that we become irritable, cranky and tired all the time. So instead of tackling the dirty laundry or washing the dishes, consider taking an afternoon nap together with your toddler.

2. Do Things One at a Time

As parents, we have plenty of stuff to accomplish; and sometimes, 24 hours in not even enough to finish all our tasks in a day. To be able to complete all the goals, most parents would only multi-task in the name of finishing everything. However, doing everything at once can actually lead to tremendous stress, not to mention errors. So take a deep breath and slow down for a bit. Focus solely on the thing that you are doing at the moment and try not to juggle too many tasks all at once. As much as possible, give your toddler your undivided attention when you are trying to teach them something. Children receiving positive attention from their parents are more likely motivated to accomplish things.

3. Play with Your Children

Having kids is not just about disciplining them and making sure that they are eating properly, it’s also about remembering to have fun with them. When you play with your children, you aren’t only cultivating your relationship with them; it can also help you offload your stress and anxiety. So laugh with them, tell a funny story, play house with them, and learn to play their games.  At the end of the day, it’s your quality time with toddlers that matters most, not the lawn that needs mowing or the clothes that need ironing.
